Troop Structure

Teaching and learning honor, integrity, and responsibility through teamwork, leadership, and self reliance

WELCOME TO BOY SCOUTS AND TROOP 222!

You are about to embark on one of the most exciting and worthwhile adventures that a young man can experience. Scouting is based on the principles of honor, integrity, and responsibility which are taught and learned through teamwork, leadership, and self reliance. Unlike competitive sports programs, in Scouting everyone plays and no one sits on the bench. Scouting allows young men to test their skills and abilities. Scouting is open to all young men regardless of race, religion, national origin, or socio-economic background. It is camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, rock climbing, biking, and skiing, but it is much, much more.

Troop Structure

Troop 222 consists of several smaller groups called patrols. Each patrol has 8 to 12 members and elects its leader each 6 months. At the head of the troop are the senior patrol leaders, who are also elected twice a year by their fellow scouts. Other troop leadership positions include junior assistant scoutmaster, assistant senior patrol leader, scribe, quartermaster, historian, librarian, troop guide, chaplain’s aide, webmaster, and den chief. Scouts are selected for these leadership positions by the senior patrol leaders and adult leadership. The elected and appointed leaders form the Patrol Leaders Council which meets monthly to plan activities and troop meetings.

Scouting is participation! Experience shows that the more a boy participates in the troop meetings and activities, the more likely it is that he will continue on his Scouting journey until age 18. The success of our troop depends directly on the active participation of scouts and parents. To advance in the higher Scout ranks (Star, Life, and Eagle) a scout must be “active in the troop” to advance in rank. Under guidelines adopted by Troop 222, a scout must attend at least 1/3 of troop meetings and troop activities during the time frame he is seeking to advance to a higher rank.
