Troop 222 Activities

Teaching and learning honor, integrity, and responsibility through teamwork, leadership, and self reliance

WELCOME TO BOY SCOUTS AND TROOP 222!

You are about to embark on one of the most exciting and worthwhile adventures that a young man can experience. Scouting is based on the principles of honor, integrity, and responsibility which are taught and learned through teamwork, leadership, and self reliance. Unlike competitive sports programs, in Scouting everyone plays and no one sits on the bench. Scouting allows young men to test their skills and abilities. Scouting is open to all young men regardless of race, religion, national origin, or socio-economic background. It is camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, rock climbing, biking, and skiing, but it is much, much more.

Troop 222 Activities

During summer months, our Scouts have many opportunities to participate in a week long summer camp program at one of the Boy Scouts of America’s council camps. We also offer many high adventure programs during the summer, including trips to the national Boy Scout high adventure bases in New Mexico (Philmont Scout Ranch), Florida (Florida Sea Base) and Minnesota (Boundary Waters Canoe Base). For the past few years, we have participated in a week long canoe, backpacking and water sports adventures, all sponsored by the Blue Ridge Mountains Council in Pulaski County, VA. We also design our own trips to Gettysburg, PA (where we camp on the battlefield and spend a day at Hershey Park), Charleston, SC (aboard the Yorktown aircraft carrier), the Lost Sea, and in Mississippi, Montana, Canada, and other interesting places.

Our troop meetings provide opportunities for learning and sharing skills, for leadership, and for planning activities. It is a troop where the elected youth leadership organizes and manages every aspect of the meeting. We frequently host community leaders for timely and informative programs. We have a firm belief that Scouting should be “fun with a purpose”. Our troop sponsors at least one weekend activity each month, and we regularly participate in community service projects such as Relay for Life, Scouting for Food, and Adopt-a-Highway
