The twelfth point of the scout law is "A Scout is Reverent". For over 50 years, Abingdon United Methodist Church has been a gracious supporter of Troop 222 and the Boy Scouts of America. Without their support, our troop would most certainly not see the level of success and growth that we have. Several times through the week and weekend, AUMC opens it doors and resources that enable our troop to carry out many of our programs. We have grown together through the decades and look forward to many years to come.

Here are just a few examples of how AUMC has supported our troop:
  • Provides large, dedicated troop room for our Tuesday night meetings and access to smaller classrooms for patrol activities.
  • Access to social hall and kitchen for special events and troop functions, including A/V amenities
  • Use of church sanctuary for formal ceremonies such as Eagle Scout court-of-honors.
  • Permanent storage shed on-site for troop equipment
  • Use of church vans to transport our scouts to various activities
  • Church volunteer in several troop-organized service projects, many that contribute to a scout's rank advancement.
  • Church leaders serve as advisors to scouts on religious-specific awards and achievements (ie. God and Life, God and Me, etc.)
  • Partner with our troop to host an annual Scout Sunday service, providing our scouts the opporunity to help lead the worship service
  • Provide internal and external sites that scouts can consider for their eagle scout project.

United Methodists are part of a global organization with millions of members worshipping in churches on six continents. AUMC's identity as a part of a much larger structure allows them to be a part of programs bringing faith and support to persons around the world. The church is  proud to be an important part of the story of United Methodism.

The history of this church reaches almost as far back as the history of Abingdon itself. The congregation traces its roots to 1783. Those early Methodists met in homes for study and prayer. Ordained pastors were in short supply with circuit riders traveling between several, and often distant congregations. It is not known when this congregation began meeting outside homes, but in 1822 the congregation moved from the Masonic Temple on Valley Street, where it had been meeting, to its own building. The Abingdon Methodist Episcopal Church, as it was known, was built on what is now Court Street.

Abingdon United Methodist Church meets on Sunday's with the following schedule:
